The former Brazilian president detained after being declared a risk of fleeing
The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.
The ex-president was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in prison, but he remained under home detention pending legal challenges.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information emerged.
This encompassed trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.
Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears
In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said information from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his getaway".

They also asked that Bolsonaro be allowed to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he demanded ongoing care for lung conditions and other health problems.
Context of Sentencing
He was determined responsible of leading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a plan which involved plans to murder Lula and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Justice Moraes - the top judicial official who has been managing the former president's case.
